Among the many neat items you can acquire in FarmVille, one of the most desired is the Mystery Egg. These Eggs are not easy to come by, which makes them all the more precious. However, there is a way you can increase the odds.

Now, this method is going to be expensive, so it isn't for the beginning player. If you haven't gotten too far yet in FarmVille, I suggest waiting until you have a fair-sized farm and plenty of coins to spend. Once you're well-established, with a decent cash surplus, you can give this a try.

The first thing you will need -- no surprise -- is chickens. Lots of chickens, at least twenty of them. You will want chickens of all colors, too. Don't use chickens of just one or two colors.

You may already have some chickens roaming on your farm. That's a good beginning. Work on filling out the flock until you have at least that magic number of twenty.If you don't have any, start buying them. See if you can get a few as gifts from other players.

When you have the full number, buy a chicken coop. That's the major expense, but it's well worth the price. Even without trying for the Mystery Egg, you'll find that having chickens in a coop makes harvesting the eggs much easier.

So now you have the coop. What you do next is to find a chicken ready to harvest and stick it in there. Then stuff the remaining nineteen in after it. That's why you need twenty: this is as much as a coop will hold. And having a full coop increases your chances of that fabulous Mystery Egg showing up.

What this technique also does, is allow you to harvest all your chickens at once. That's why the first chicken in must be one ready for harvesting. I don't understand that mechanism, but it works, which is all that matters.

Once you have all the eggs, clear out the coop, and do this all over again: put in a ready-to-harvest chicken, followed by the others. Get all the eggs, clear the coop, and so on. If you're really determined to get a Mystery Egg, you can build up another flock of twenty more chickens and buy another coop.

Keep in mind that you likely won't turn up an Egg right away. This method increases your chances, but you'll have to keep at it for awhile, even with more than one coop. Sooner or later, though, that Mystery Egg should appear. In the meantime, you'll have plenty of regular eggs to sell while you wait.

• Planning - Vital! Sit down and work out the best ways to maximize results for the time you have. Consider strawberries. 4 hours to grow and yield 35 coins/plot. But can you be there every four hours? If not, pumpkins, taking 8 hours with 68 coins, could be a better choice. That's just one example.
• Expand Slowly - Start with a few cleared plots. Plant, harvest, then re-plant them. Use some of your profit to clear some more land, and plant there. Don't go too fast, or you will run out of seed money. Remember to plan those harvests for max results.
• Ribbons - Stick with one kind at a time. Read up on 'em carefully. Often, you can get progress towards another ribbon type while working on your first choice. Take trees. Focus on harvesting fruit for Tree Hugger, and you'll be progressing in Knock On Wood, too. That doesn't work in reverse, though, so be careful what you choose.
• Experience - Farm products bring experience, but buildings do better. After all, you don't have to be jumping in all the time to harvest. Once you have your farm bringing in some reliable money, save up for building improvements. That will make a nice experience boost. Just keep an eye on how much each building or improvement will bring you. And remember, you'll still need seed money, so don't spend too much at once.
